Chełmno – a mural of love

In Chełmno, a town with a rich history and traditions, you can come across a number of interesting murals. One of them is the "love mural," which was created based on Walenty Fiałek's "Sekretarz Miłosny" (Love Secretary). Strolling through the streets of Chełmno, the "city of lovers," where love lives and breathes in every brick, it is impossible to pass by this mural indifferently. "Sekretarz miłosny, czyli Podręcznik dla zakochanych" (The Love Secretary, or Handbook for Lovers) contained numerous examples of love letters, congratulations for loved ones, and poems for name days. There you will find, for example, inspiration on how to write a letter to a young lady asking her to get to know you better, a letter confessing your love, a craftsman's attempt to win the hand of a craftsman's daughter, and then two replies to the letter: a refusal and a favorable response, as well as, for example, asking a friend about the qualities of a young lady... Perhaps it is worth returning to this almost lost art and skill of writing love letters, enclosing a dried flower or a handkerchief sprinkled with perfume...
