Despite three changes of location and numerous disagreements with Toruń, Nieszawa remained a strong and thriving center for a very long time thanks to its location on the Vistula River. Its heyday came in the first half of the 17th century.
The Vistula River was not only the driving force behind the development of Nieszawa, but also of most of the towns located on its banks. It was a trade route, a source of food and income. However, it could also cause a lot of damage and pose a danger to both the inhabitants and those who were on the water. Hence the idea to make the Vistula, named Boginią Wisłą (Goddess Vistula), the subject of the first mural in Nieszawa, created by artist Andrzej Poprostu.
