Three remarkable murals have been created in Świecie, which are not only pleasing to the eye, but also serve as illustrated guides to the history of the town. One such work is a mural by Daria Makarewicz from the Murall group, commemorating the aviator Witold Aleksander Herbst.
Herbst, a war hero associated with Świecie, where he spent his childhood and youth, is still a little-known figure. What a pity! His wartime achievements, when he flew in squadrons 308 and 303, are truly worthy of commemoration. The mural commemorates his heroic deeds and incredible returns to base after being shot down numerous times. After the war, he remained in exile, and after 1989, he began visiting Świecie, where he organized summer English courses for students. He died in 2017 in the United States at the age of 99.
This mural is not only a tribute to his memory, but also an inspiration to learn about the extraordinary stories of people connected with Świecie. An interesting fact is that he lived only 150 meters from where the mural is now located.
