Information

  • Address: Sądowa 16, Świecie
This time, we are transported back to medieval times thanks to a colorful work of art, which is an artistic interpretation of one of the legends about the origin of the city's coat of arms, depicting Prince Grzymisław, the ruler of these lands in the 12th century. According to legend, Grzymisław, at the end of his life, set off on a hunt in the nearby woods. While chasing a huge boar, he fell from his horse and broke his leg. Alone and terrified, he blew his hunting horn, which was heard by his chaplain, who rushed to his rescue and brought him to Świecie. In gratitude for saving his life, Grzymisław decided to bring the Knights Hospitaller to Świecie and introduce two heads of St. John separated by an eternally burning candle into the town's coat of arms as an expression of reverence and homage. This is how the oldest, legendary coat of arms of Świecie was created. An interesting fact is that the mural is located a few steps from Grzymisława Street, where the Prince Grzymisław Bicycle Trail ends, which is a real treat for history and legend lovers. It is worth seeing this work, which brings the legend to life and gives the town a unique atmosphere. The author of this project is Izabela Dudzik.
