When in 1836, four copper therapeutic bathtubs were placed in one of the Ciechocinek inns, and the first patients began to use the brine baths, the beneficial properties of local waters were noticed. This gave rise to the Spa Plant, which became the beginning of the health resort. Over time, Ciechocinek became the favorite resort of the elites of that time, and its fame continues to this day.
The three huge wooden graduation towers are unique and the largest in Europe. Their total length is 1,742.3 m and the height is almost 16 m. The brine is drawn from spring no. 11 - the famous "Grzybek" fountain. It is here, from a depth of 414.6 m, that brine is drawn and transported to the graduation tower via a pipeline. A walk at the graduation tower is not only a moment of relaxation, it is also an excellent way to improve your health. The brine flowing down the blackthorn branches evaporates intensively under the influence of wind and sunlight, creating a microclimate rich in iodine. Inside one of the graduation towers there is a brine cave - a natural inhalation facility powered by Ciechocinek brine.
The saltworks is a unique technical monument, not only in the country but also in the world. It is the last link in the technological chain of production of Ciechocinek food salt. For almost two centuries, salt has been produced here in a traditional way, using the same simple tools, and the work related to brewing is still done manually by workers called "brewmasters". To look at the salt brewing process and return to the beginnings of the Ciechocinek health resort, it is worth visiting the local museum. Among the numerous exhibits, attention is paid to restored therapeutic gymnastics apparatus from the early 20th century.
The Kuyavian health resort delights with its green parks, flower carpets and eclectic buildings. Built in the "Swiss" style, the Summer Theater - a gem of 19th-century wooden architecture, the Mineral Water Pump Room with a facade decorated with openwork lace, and the Zakopane-style concert hall impress not only art and architecture lovers. Walking along the alleys of the Spa Park, you will notice a fairy-tale couple hiding under an umbrella. This is the famous Ciechocinek fountain "Hansel and Gretel", which has become one of the city's symbols. When in Ciechocinek, be sure to try "Krystynka" - mineral water, produced here since 1902. Together with spa cosmetics, it is a perfect complement to the treatment.
