Dobrzyń nad Wisłą is the oldest town in Dobrzyń Land. The local town, situated on a high bank of the Vistula River, was mentioned already in a document from 1065 as a centre of Mazovian castellany. In 1228, Konrad of Masovia established the knightly Order of the Dobrzyń Brothers at Dobrzyń Castle, which merged with the Teutonic Order in 1233. And so the town became a place of numerous fights of the Teutonic Knights with prince Konrad of Masovia, and later with Władysław Łokietek. The castle came to an end in 1409, when the Teutonic Knights captured and destroyed the castle defended by the starost Jan of Płomiany. Today it is worth climbing the Castle Hill. Although the castle is no longer on it, there is a beautiful view of the Włocławek Reservoir from its top. At the level of Dobrzyń the widest trough of the Reservoir, measuring approximately 3 km, is located.
