14 July 2012 - this date is well remembered by the inhabitants of Bory Tucholskie. It was then that a tornado struck the area, destroying a 20-kilometre-long strip of forest, 100 to 770 metres wide. Trees fell on a total of 468 hectares. The scale of the destruction can be seen today from the observation tower in Trzebciny, located just off the Tleń - Tuchola road. The planting of new forest was only completed in 2015, 8 hectares were left as reference areas for natural succession. Standing on the observation tower and looking at the surroundings, one can realise how powerful the forces of nature are.
