Strzelno

Places
On the St. Adalbert Hill in Strzelno there  is a complex of the former Norbertine convent. Along with it are two valuable Romanesque churches which, despite their turbulent history, have retained their authenticity. The St. Procopius Rotunda is one of the  oldest Romanesque churches. It is also the largest Romanesque building in Poland founded on a circular plan. Because of its distinctive design - the end of the nave is not an apse (as is the case with most rotundas), but a rectangular chancel - it is the only rotunda of its kind in Europe. The Holy Trinity Church  was built at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries. Although reconstructions carried out over the years have distorted the Romanesque exterior of the church, giving it a Baroque façade, the interior still hides valuable Romanesque treasures. Particularly noteworthy are two Romanesque columns with personifications of human virtues and vices. They are among the most valuable monuments of Romanesque art in Poland. The only other examples are the Cathedral  of St James in Santiago de Compostela in Spain and  St Mark's Basilica in Venice, Italy.
