The Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Włocławek is a monumental Gothic temple with neo-Gothic elements, dominating the city skyline. It was built at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries on the initiative of Bishop Maciej of Gołańcz, who, after the destruction of the earlier Romanesque cathedral by the Teutonic Knights in 1329, began the construction of a new temple.
