Information

  • Address: Stary Jarużyn 43a, Stary Jarużyn
In Stary Jaruzin, a mural depicting a typical "poniatówka" cottage was painted on the wall of the local community center. What were "Poniatówki"? They were farms built in the 1930s on the initiative of the Minister of Agriculture Juliusz Poniatowski to settle flood victims from southern Poland. There used to be over 25 of them in Stary Jarużyn, but now there are less than ten left. The mural is unique because the entrance to the painted cottage is also the door to the community center, which is a symbolic link between history and the everyday life of the residents. Stary Jarużyn lies on the "poniatówek" trail, which can also be found in other towns in the region, including the municipality of Dobrcz. In Kuyavia-Pomerania, there may still be as many as several hundred of these buildings.
