Address:Bulwary Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego 22, Włocławek
Mikołaj Olizar-Zakrzewski, winner of the competition for a mural entitled "Stara Przystań" (Old Harbor), has brought the history of Włocławek and its connection to the Vistula River to life in an extraordinary way. His work takes us back to a time when the Vistula was not only the main artery of communication, but also a lifeblood for the city's development.
The facade of the building features images of historic Vistula ships, such as Łyżwa and Szkuta, which once bustled with life in the port of Włocławek. The mural depicts the now defunct Old Harbor, capturing the spirit of the hustle and bustle of trade and transport that shaped the life of the city. Every detail, from the architecture of the ships to the crowded quays, reflects the vibrant past of this strategic location.
In his design, Olizar-Zakrzewski not only recreated a fragment of history, but also reminded us of the key importance of the Vistula River for the development of Włocławek. His mural is not only an urban decoration, but also a message about preserving the memory of local roots and heritage. It encourages us to reflect on the city's past, which, thanks to the river, became an important commercial and cultural center.
