Information

Koronowo is a charming town with Cistercian origins. It was here, in 1288, that the Cistercian order moved its headquarters from nearby Byszew. The name Koronowo comes from the name of the local monastery, which the monks called Corona Marie, expressing the special cult they had for the Blessed Virgin Mary. You can find traces of the Cistercians in the local basilica. An important date in the history of Koronowo is October 10, 1410. On that day, in the village of Wilcze near Koronowo, there was a battle with the Teutonic Order, ending with the victory of the Polish army. To commemorate this event, every year in July, a battle reenactment takes place here combined with the Cistercian Fair. Cyclists and walkers will be enchanted by the picturesquely located narrow-gauge railway bridge, over a hundred years old and the highest in Europe (relative to the water surface). The steel, openwork structure rises to a height of 18 m. It offers a beautiful view of the Brda Valley and the lazily flowing river. Grabina Park, whose name comes from the hornbeam forests growing on the hills around the city, is an ideal place for hiking. From here you will see the meandering Brda River and the city lying at its foot.
