Situated on an island on the shore of Lake Śpierewnik (today's peninsula), the stronghold was in the 13th century the center of the Raciska castellany within the duchy of Świecie. Local administrative, military, judicial and economic authorities resided here. The stronghold served as a settlement center in the then sparsely populated areas of Tuchola Forest, and also defended the border of the duchy with Greater Poland Region. Its end came with fires, most of them caused by enemy troops. Today, the reconstruction of the stronghold takes you back to the old times, and you can reach it by a wooden bridge. You will see the reconstructed entrance gate with part of the palisade, a visualization of the arrangement of houses, as well as the location of the fortifications and the former cemetery. Numerous information boards will allow you to explore the interesting history of this place.
