Information

Wietrzychowice will surprise you with pyramids, over 1,000 years older than the Egyptian ones! The "Polish pyramids" are large stone tombs built by the people of the Neolithic Funnel Beaker culture. The purpose of their construction was to provide the deceased with a permanent final resting place. The place of burial was probably determined by common respect, hence the assumption that people high in the tribal hierarchy were buried in these tombs. They were built of huge boulders, over which huge earth embankments were built, with a volume of over 1,000 m³, over 100 m in length and up to 3 m in height, formed in the shape of an elongated triangle. In the Wietrzychowice Cultural Park you will see five preserved Kujawy megaliths. Once arousing curiosity and sometimes anxiety, today they constitute one of the oldest and most valuable objects of European cultural heritage. In one of the tombs, the remains of two men were found with traces of trepanation of the skull. Bone adhesions allow us to conclude that the "surgery" was successful and both of them lived for several years after it.
