When you are in Topolno, you will certainly notice a characteristic high hill, towering over the village. It is the remains of an early medieval town dating back to the turn of the 8th and 9th centuries. In the second half of the 10th century, a defensive settlement was established here, which guarded the Vistula trade route connecting Pomerania with Greater Poland. Together with the Świecie and Gruczno towns, it formed a complex of border guards. The Topolno town stopped existing after the death of Mieszko II (1034), when several districts, including Vistula Pomerania, were separated from the Polish state. Today, only a high, truncated hill remains, which, because of its characteristic shape, is called "Talerzyk” [plate]. It is reached via a field track surrounded by bushes and wild fruit trees. It is worth to cross it and climb to the very top, which offers a beautiful panorama of the Vistula valley.
