Dobrzyń’s Castle Hill on the Vistula River’s banks

Information

Dobrzyń nad Wisłą is one of Poland's oldest towns. The first signs of settlement are directly linked to the area by the Vistula River, now called Castle Hill. The settlement mentioned in the Mogilno Forgery of 1065 was a center of the Mazovian castellany. In the 13th century, Konrad I of Masovia settled the Dobrzyń Brothers, a knightly order, in the Dobrzyń castle, which later merged with the Teutonic Knights. The settlement became a battleground with the Teutonic Order, ending in 1409 when the Teutonic Knights captured, destroyed, and burned the castle. Though the castle remains are just memories, a trip to the top of Castle Hill offers an incredible view of the Włocławek Reservoir, which spans two kilometers wide at this section.
