Information

Sails flapping in the wind are a permanent element of the local landscape. Lake Chełmżyńskie is not only the city's showcase. This is a guarantee of a successful holiday in the very center of the city. The 1000-lecia boulevard running along the lake is an ideal place for a walk, especially in the light of the setting sun. A walking bridge located over the water will take you to the opposite shore of the lake. From here you can admire the panorama of the city with the towering towers of Gothic churches. One of them is the co-cathedral of the Holy Trinity, whose history dates back to 1251. Teutonic dignitaries were buried there, including Grand Master Siegfried von Feuchtwangen, who moved the capital of the Teutonic state from Venice to Malbork. Over the centuries, the temple was visited by many Polish kings - Władysław Jagiełło, Casimir IV Jagiellon, Sigismund Augustus, Sigismund III Vasa with his son Władysław, and John III Sobieski. The latter donated to the Chełmża cathedral, as a vote of thanks, the saddle cloth of Vizier Kara Mustafa's horse, captured during the relief of Vienna. The saddle cloth, converted into a cope, is kept in the cathedral treasury. There is also a ceramic mug hidden there, with an extraordinary story associated with it. Apparently if it is broken, the cathedral will be destroyed. At least that's what the legends say...
