Information

Bierzgłowski Castle is a village whose name even resembles the fate of the castle built here by the Teutonic Order. As the seat of the convent, it once played an important administrative and military role. Despite its turbulent history, it has not lost its original character. Passing through the impressive gate with an ogival portal, pay attention to the ceramic tympanum depicting three knights. It is considered the oldest example of architectural sculpture in Prussia and an outstanding work of ceramic art in Europe at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. The ancient spirit of the place is recalled by the castle chapel, where knights fulfilled their monastic rule. Today, the castle walls house the Diocesan Cultural Center.
