Information

"Wilanów  of Bydgoszcz", this is what Andrzej Szwalbe, the great cultural animator and organizer of Bydgoszcz's musical life, said about Ostromecko. And this is not an exaggerated statement. Among the greenery of the forests and the gardens incorporated into them, the silhouettes of two palaces emerge - the classicist New Palace and the baroque Old Palace. The New Palace, the seat of the Schönborn and Alvensleben families, was built in the 19th century. In the beautiful palace interiors decorated in the period style, you will learn about the history of the old families that managed Ostromecko and see what the life of the former bourgeoisie was like. There is also an exhibition devoted to the former Bydgoszcz music industry. The Sommerfeld warehouse is an interior arranged as a workshop space, where you will feel like an employee of the former Bruno Sommerfeld Piano Factory. You will also see an extraordinary collection of instruments from the Bydgoszcz Accordion Factory. Situated on the edge of the Vistula escarpment, the Old Palace is a baroque residence of the Mostowski family, built in the 18th century. Its interior houses the Collection of Antique Grand Pianos named after A. Szwalbe, it’s one of the three largest collections of this type in Poland. Both palaces are surrounded by gardens full of unique plants and a vast park. It is the work of Peter Joseph Lenné himself , an outstanding Prussian planner and landscape architect, creator of the famous Potsdam gardens in Sanssouci. Walking along the park paths, you will find the burial mausoleum of the Schönborn-Alvensleben family.
