Mount St. Adalbert is a legendary hill associated with the beginnings of Christianity in Poland and the cult of St. Adalbert. According to one of the legends, in the year 997 Bishop Adalbert's retinue was travelling from Gniezno towards Gdansk, and as a resting place they chose a hill on the right bank of the Noteć river, in the area of today's Barcin. The missionary expedition ended with the martyrdom of Adalbert. When, on the way back, the horses pulling the cart containing the missionary's body met the aforementioned mountain, they refused to continue. They moved again when a cross was erected at the site.
